One of a Kind

I never understood the phrase “Heaven on Earth” until I saw my paternal house in a small town near Mangalore. This house is just a few kilometers away from a small place called Aladangadi (Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka, India). The beauty of this place is surreal. Many years back, my grandfather moved to this place which was a forest back then. He converted most of the forest land into farmland for agricultural purposes, to grow areca nut, and also built a small house in the same land. I was indeed lucky to listen to the various stories about my grandfather that my dad often shared. Grandpa considers every tree in that land as his own child. It not only reflects the amount of hard work but the love that has been invested to develop the vast area. Those were the years with no electricity and absolute zero transportation. Walking kilometers to reach the town for school or trade and managing household activities with immense difficulty, they have seen it all. But this never let their spirits down. The outstanding support from my grandmother in difficult times like these is what kept them going (even today). They say hardships only bring out the best in you. He is one of that kind. He is best described by two words-Discipline and Sincerity. Even today, his routine is what impresses me the most which include chanting mantras, reading newspaper, and eating light for a healthy body. He always makes sure he thanks the universe for whatever he has got and I think this is a very important lesson. He is a very knowledgeable person because of the immense reading he has been doing for the past fifty years. His body at 91 is not letting him do things of great value but the spirit never withers. Belief, support, and care are the pillars of his strong personality. He always stood up for the right things, created a wonderful example, and continues to be an inspiration for the generations to come. Forever grateful for your existence. Happy Father’s Day Grandpa :)!!!!!

Grandpa's Happy place :)

Flashback

Lost are the times when the only thing we cared about was to finish the school homework. The real fights ended at winning the TV remote. Sibling rivalry of proving their favorite tv show was considered the greatest achievement. The infinite road trips with parents, spending hours to pick restaurants to dine out instead of having everything being delivered at our doorstep, our favorite songs playing non-stop on the CD Player which absolutely eliminated the confusion of picking songs from a hundred apps. Gone are the days where our laughter echoed with every step-down in the game of Snake and Ladder or with every bad number on the dice. I think relationships were less complicated and the world seemed like a place with endless possibilities. All these seem like memories locked in time. Coming back home to mom's favorite Masala Maggi after a game of Hide and Seek was the sweetest and most difficult wait ever. Maggi on one hand and Horlicks on the other seemed like the p...

Land of Dreamcatchers!

Sometimes you never really know why you start liking some things. Over time, these things turn into obsessions. One such obsession for me is Dreamcatchers. To give you'll a brief summary, I was always fascinated by the art of making crafts, it still continues to drive me crazy. There is a certain essence that adds beauty to the materialistic substance thereby making powerful objects of art. I started learning to make dreamcatchers with the mere objective of gifting it a friend but later turned to be the brand ambassador of this Art. Haha. The feathers, the color, and the weave were points of great interest.  Google says that according to a tribal tradition these art pieces were hung by the child's bed, believing that the weave would absorb all the bad dreams and help them sleep peacefully. Quite fascinating. Let's just assume that dreamcatcher feeds positive thoughts and hence your quality sleep is assured. Contrasting colors, the texture, and feathers and the perfe...

Mumbai Mania!!

Everyone calls it the city of dreams, I always wondered why? All the stories I actually heard made a lot more sense when I first set foot in the 'sapno ki nagri- Mumbai' The hot summers, the mad rains, the pleasant winters, and the ever-busy crowd, this city never failed to surprise me. Walking kilometers down the Marine drive or sitting at the shore-- realizing the absolute positivity that the evening breeze has to offer. Believe me, when I am saying this, it's surreal. From having zero clues about my Survival here to finding the strength to believe I can do it, it has been a journey,, an absolute roller coaster ride that I will cherish throughout my coming days! The crazy but yummy food, local trains hustling with people, and the 24*7 availability of chai, and I think this is what gets the people closer and super welcoming! The process of meeting new people from all walks of life was so overwhelming but also managed to help me grow through the process of independe...
